Welcome to Critical Myth!
My name is John Keegan, and I am a published TV critic. I have been writing television reviews for various outlets for more than 5 years. This is the central archive for every single review that has been written since the beginning of my career. More than 1000 reviews can be found by exploring the links on the home page. Currently, many of my reviews are published by MediaBlvd Magazine, where I am a regular contributor. Additionally, my reviews are associated with several fan sites for specific television shows, including 24 Fanatic. Reviews are posted to TV.com under the user name “entil2001″ (the original Critical Myth domain name, available through the “Whois” directory for verification).
While individual reviews may vary in content, the overall conceit of Critical Myth is the idea of genre television as “modern day mythology”. Television has produced a number of cultural icons and demigods over the past several decades, and many of them are related to science fiction and fantasy: James Kirk, Mr. Spock, Fox Mulder, Buffy Summers, Jack Bauer. The list continues as words like “frak”, “Browncoats”, and “save the cheerleader, save the world” invade the popular consciousness. This is the exploration of these characters and icons from week to week, over the course of their creation. Some ideas live, some fall to the wayside, but they all leave a mark.
Reviews are typically posted to this site for archival purposes within 24-48 hours of the original air date of an episode. The review is archived once it is released to the publisher(s). Fan sites are invited to link to the reviews as they wish; many have requested that I (or an associate) post them directly. In all cases, however, proper reference must be made to Critical Myth and/or John Keegan as the author. (Older reviews may continue to reference “The Shrine of Entil’Zha” or “Entil”; these were used for earlier incarnations of the archive.)

I absolutely love your reviews on Lost, although I may occasionally disagree with a point here and there. Yours is the only review I read at TV.com. I often have to search through pages of reviews to find yours. I spend most of my internet Lost time at DarkUFO where there are 4 or 5 reviewers posted. They run the gamut from so-called shipper related satire to practically a doctorial thesis on mythology. I would love to see your reviews over there as well. They are clear, concise and cover what’s happening in the episode so well. I think yours would be a great edition to the ones already there and I think they would be incedibly well received. Also, since Dark limits his reviewers, yours would not be lost among the masses like at TV.com. This may not be something you’re interested in, but DarkUFO is a large site with a large fan base and I think both would greatly benefit by having your reviews posted there. But maybe you and DarkUFO are already aware of each other and this was not something either one of you wanted to pursue. Regardless, I thought I would submit a comment to DarkUFO concerning this. Hope you are OK with it.

By all means, feel free to submit a comment in support of the idea! If DarkUFO would like to include my reviews, I will be happy to provide them.

Well I emailed DarkUFO and his reply has dashed my hopes somewhat. He said: “We don’t have any more space on the homepage for any more recappers, however, we post a
number of recappers from other sources and readers in the forum section. I would be more than happy to post his review there.” If you are interested at all, you can go to darkufo.blogspot.com and select the Contact link at the top right corner. If you’re not interested, I understand and I will continue to read your reviews regardless.

Hi there,
Would you mind if I published your reviews for Battlestar Galactica with a link back to your site from mine. I’d appreciate it. They are quite good.
